Alvin Newman

Dr. Alvin Newman MD, FRCPC, FACP, FACG, trained in medicine and gastroenterology in the U.S. and after two years of research in England he moved to Toronto (in 1973) and has been in practice at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto ever since.

Dr. Newman's practice has always had a large number of patients with functional GI disease - IBS and functional dyspepsia - and he has developed a philosophy and approach to dealing with these problems and that forms the basis of his book, The Essential IBS Book.

In addition to practicing gastroenterology for many years Dr. Newman was deeply involved in medical education and he redesigned the curriculum of the University of Toronto's Faculty of Medicine. He achieved the academic rank of Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Medicine.
