Barbara Allan is a Registered Dietitian whose career has spanned two decades. She has held a variety of positions including outpatient nutrition education, inpatient clinical care, management and research, and has worked with clients of all ages and with a variety of health conditions.
From the very start of her career, Barbara found she had a special interest in people with diabetes. In 1991 she became one of the first Certified Diabetes Educators in Canada and has retained this designation ever since.
Barbara is an active volunteer for the Canadian Diabetes Association as a speaker and committee member. Her committee work has included the creation of nationally-used educational materials for people with diabetes, and one of the most widely used is the CDA’s official meal planning system: the “Beyond the Basics” suite of materials, which garnered the prestigious Frederick Banting award in 2007. Barbara resides in Richmond, BC.
